Styrolution's Texas styrene plant to go down 4 weeks

HOUSTON (ICIS)--Styrolution said on Wednesday that it would take its 485,000 tonne/year Texas City styrene plant in Texas down for about four weeks of planned maintenance.

The company did not say what kind of maintenance the plant would be undergoing.

The downtime comes during a seasonal slowdown in the styrene market, alongside soft demand and weak feedstock benzene prices.

The lack of demand and slowdown has lead some other styrene producers to reduce rates slightly, according to trade participants.

Current styrene spot prices are at 64-65 cents/lb ($1,411-1,433/tonne, €1,129-1,146/tonne) FOB (free on board).

Major North American styrene producers include Shell Canada, Styrolution, Americas Styrenics and Total.
