TOKYO (ICIS)--Japanese chemical producer Showa Denko plans to restart its 695,000 tonne/year cracker at Oita on 8 June following repair work, a company official said on Monday.

“We will feed naphtha into the plant on [8 June]. It takes several days until [the plant] can start normal operation, so we expect [the cracker] to reach full-rate operation by around mid-June, depending on how the process goes,” the official said.

Showa Denko had earlier postponed the restart of the plant from end-May to June.

The official said this was because the repair work at the cracker is taking longer than expected.

The producer had suspended operations at the plant on 28 March when problems occurred at its cooling unit.
