HOUSTON (ICIS)--US sorbitol imports in April were down by 7% from March, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday.

US sorbitol imports fell to 672 tonnes in April from 721 tonnes in March.

Imports fell in April mainly because of reduced imports from Indonesia.

April imports increased, however, from 559 tonnes in the same month of 2011.

Indonesia at 429 tonnes was the major source of US sorbitol imports, followed by India at 91 tonnes and Germany at 89 tonnes.

The US exported 3,442 tonnes of sorbitol in April, down from 3,613 tonnes in March and 3,686 tonnes in the same month of 2011.

Major destinations for US sorbitol were Canada at 1,382 tonnes, Mexico at 1,246 tonnes and Argentina at 291 tonnes.

Other destinations included Australia, Colombia, Venezuela, India and Korea.
