SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s major adipic acid (ADA) producer Shandong Haili Chemical Industry is running its 225,000 tonnes/year ADA plant at Zibo, eastern Shandong province, at 70% of capacity because of weak demand, a company source said on Wednesday.

“All three lines are running normally after the earlier turnarounds, but the total operating rate is around 70%, as the demand is very bad,” the source said.

“The plant will operate at the reduced rate in the next few weeks in view of the lacklustre demand,” the source added.

The company completed maintenance work that started in late April for its three lines in early June, according to the source.

Each line has a capacity of 75,000 tonnes/year.

ADA is mostly used to produce nylon 6,6 (polyamide 6,6) and polyurethanes (PU) that are used in shoe soles and polyester resins.
