SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Sinopec SABIC Tianjin Petrochemical plans to shut its 200,000 tonne/year butadiene (BD) unit at Tianjin in late August for annual planned maintenance, a source close to the company said on Wednesday.

The shutdown will last about 40 days, but the actual date has not been confirmed by the company, the source said.

The BD output loss due to the shutdown will be 22,000-24,000 tonnes, the source added.

BD supply in China may tighten because of the shutdown, a market source said.

BD spot prices have been stable at yuan (CNY) 15,000/tonne ($2,355/tonne) since 1 June, according to Chemease, an ICIS service in China.

Sinopec SABIC Tianjin Petrochemical is a key domestic BD producer at Tianjin in north China.
