China’s Erdos Xinhu begins construction of Inner Mongolia MTO project

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Erdos Xinhu Chemical started construction of its 1.8m tonne/year methanol-to-olefins (MTO) project in Erdos, Inner Mongolia earlier this week, the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation said in a statement on Thursday.

The project, which is expected to cost yuan (CNY) 8.38bn ($1.32bn), is being constructed jointly by chemical producer Zhejiang Xinhu Group and the Anhui Wanbei Coal-electricity Group.

The statement did not disclose any construction or start-up details.

Output from the project’s 1.8m tonne/year methanol plant will be used as feedstock to produce 600,000 tonnes/year of olefins products.
