China's Sinopec targets 1.7bn cbm of shale gas production in 2015

BEIJING (ICIS)--Sinopec has made significant progress in development of shale gas and targets to achieve production of 1.7bn cubic metres (cbm) by 2015, a company executive said on Friday.

The company will establish an additional shale gas production capacity of 3bn cbm during the five year period of 2011-2015, said Bao Shujing, deputy manager at unconventional energy technology support department of Petroleum Exploration and Production Research Institute of Sinopec (PEPRIS).

Bao was speaking at the 2012 China International LNG Conference, which runs Tuesday through Friday.

The Sinopec target accounts for approximately 40% of China’s total production objective of 6.5bn cbm by 2015.
