SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Nanjing Nuoao New Material on 28 June started construction of a 20,000 tonne/year propionaldehyde unit and a 100,000 tonne/year n-propyl alcohol unit at Nanjing, industry sources said on Wednesday.

The units are part of the phase I of a project located at Nanjing Chemical Industrial Park and will use ethylene, synthesis gas and hydrogen as feedstock, the sources added.

The project will comprise three phases and require a total investment of $1.35bn (€1.07bn), a source close to Nanjing Nuoao said in Mandarin.

The expected completion date of phase I was not immediately available.

For the next five years, Nanjing Nuoao will focus on developing specialty materials and green carbon products such as polyurethane and engineering plastics, the source said.

Propionaldehyde is used to produce synthetic resins, propanol and propionic acid.

Nanjing Nuoao New Material is a subsidiary of Zibo Nuoao Chemical.
