SINGAPORE (ICIS)--India’s Supreme Petrochem Ltd (SPL) plans to shut its polystyrene (PS) plant at Ratnagiri in Maharashtra state at the end of July for 20-25 days to undergo revamping and modification, a company source said on Thursday.

The company is running the PS unit, which has a total nameplate capacity of 272,000 tonnes/year, at 50-60% of capacity, the source said.

The shutdown is not expected to have a large impact on the export market as the current demand for exports is weak. The company is building inventories to meet domestic Indian demand and is holding talks with other suppliers to cover contract agreements of the product, the source added.
