US May ABS exports rise 15.6% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) exports for May were up by 15.6% year on year, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Wednesday.

Exports increased to 8,174 tonnes from 7,069 tonnes in May 2011.

Month on month, exports rose by 10.9% from 7,372 tonnes in April, the ITC said.

Top destinations for US ABS exports in May were Mexico, Canada and China.

For the year, exports of ABS are down by 3.9%, totalling 37,984 tonnes.

Imports came primarily from Mexico, Korea and Taiwan, and amounted to 12,962 tonnes, up by 15.2% in May year on year.

For the year, imports of ABS have totalled 60,240 tonnes, which is 12.4% greater than 2011 through May.

US producers of ABS include INEOS ABS, Network Polymers, SABIC Innovative Plastics and Styron.
