SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Thailand’s Indorama Ventures Ltd (IVL) started commercial operations at its new polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plant at Port Harcourt in Nigeria on 19 July, the company said on Friday.

“This is the first PET investment of IVL in Africa and thus establishes its foothold in the estimated 450,000 tonnes PET market for the continent of Africa,” the company said in a statement.

The solid state polymerisation (SSP) plant will be operated by IVL’s indirect subsidiary Indorama PET (Nigeria), it added.
