Japan's production of oriented PP film falls 7.4% in June

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s production of oriented polypropylene (PP) film drecreased 7.4% month on month to 18,758 tonnes in June, reflecting lower domestic shipments and exports, official data from an industry association showed on Friday.

Year on year, June production of oriented PP film fell 11%, according to the Japan Polypropylene Film Industry Association.

The country’s domestic shipments of oriented PP film decreased by 5.3% to 17,392 tonnes in June from May, and declined by 16% year on year, the data showed.

Exports of oriented PP film were down by 7.9% month on month to 348 tonnes in June, but up by 26% year on year, according to the association.

Meanwhile, Japan’s production of cast PP film increased by 16% month on month to 13,786 tonnes in June, but decreased by 13% year on year, official data showed.

Domestic shipments of cast PP film decreased by 1.7% to 11,703 tonnes in June from May, and fell by 15% from June 2011, according to the statistics.

Exports of cast PP film were down by 6.6% month on month to 327 tonnes, but up by 16% year on year, according to the association.

Oriented PP film and cast PP film are primarily used for food packaging and other industrial purposes.
