HOUSTON (ICIS)--Chevron has shut down the 4 Crude Unit of its 240,000 bbl/day refinery at Richmond near San Francisco, following a fire on 6 August, but other parts of the refinery have continued operating, the firm said late Wednesday.

“We are making transportation fuels, but at reduced capacity,” the US-based energy and petrochemical firm said in an update.

“We are cooperating fully with regulatory officials to investigate the incident and do not know how long this [4 Crude] Unit will be down," Chevron added.

Earlier on Wednesday, the US Chemical Safety Board (CSB) said it sent a seven-member team to investigate Monday’s incident.
