US June PET imports decrease 4% year on year

MIAMI (ICIS)--US polyethylene terephthalate (PET) June imports decreased by 4% year on year, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) statistics made available on Friday.

US PET imports for June 2012 were 44,434 tonnes, down from 46,092 tonnes in 2011, the ITC said.  

Month on month, PET imports in June increased by 12% to 44,434 tonnes from 39,550 tonnes in May. The increase came on the back of strong buying interest.

US PET exports for June were 28,917 tonnes, up by 52% from 19,067 tonnes in June 2011.

The major export destination for US product is Canada, with 9,690 tonnes in June 2012, while Mexico is the key supplier of imports to the US, with 17,488 tonnes for the same period.

Domestic prices for bottle grade PET are currently assessed by ICIS at 73.00-78.00 cents/lb ($1,609-1,720/tonne, €1,303-1,393/tonne) DEL (delivered).

US PET producers include DAK Americas, Indorama, Mossi & Ghisolfi Group, and NanYa.
