SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwans Formosa Petrochemical Corp (FPCC) took its 1.03m tonne/year No 2 cracker in Mailiao off line on Wednesday morning as planned, a company source said.

The 30-day shutdown prompted FPCC to skip spot naphtha buying for September and October deliveries.

FPCC’s 700,000 tonne/year No 1 cracker at Mailiao is operating at 85% capacity following its restart last week, while the 1.2m tonne/year No 3 cracker at the same site is currently running at full capacity. There are no plans to shut the No 3 cracker for a turnaround in the near future.

The Taiwanese government ordered the safety checks at the Mailiao production facilities following a string of fires at the site last year.
