SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Jiaxing Petrochemical plans to start trial runs at its new 1.5m tonne/year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant in Zhejiang province over the weekend, a company source said on Friday.

The start-up schedule has been postponed several times since April because of disruptions in delivery of imported machinery parts for the plant, the source said.

Jiaxing Petrochemical decided to source the machinery parts within China, the source said, citing an issue with its import supplier.

“We are not sure how long the trial runs will take, but we expect to achieve on-spec production by this month,” the source said.

Output from the new PTA plant is mainly for captive use: to be fed into the 1.6m tonne/year polyester yarn plants owned by Jaixing Petrochemical’s parent firm – the Tongkun Group, the source said.

The polyester plants are located at Tongxiang in Zhejiang province.

Jiaxing Petrochemical’s new manufacturing PTA plant uses INVISTA technology, the source said.
