LONDON (ICIS)--LyondellBasell will bring down an ethylene unit at its petrochemicals site in Wesseling near Cologne, Germany, in late August for four weeks of regulatory safety checks and maintenance work, the Netherlands-headquartered chemicals major said on Friday.

LyondellBasell said that during the shutdown and restart of the plant – known as “Ethylenanlage 6” – there could be controlled flaring activity.

The company added that a team of 30 workers has been preparing for the work since the end of 2010. It did not comment on capacities.

According to ICIS plants & projects, LyondellBasell’s production capacities at Wesseling include 1.05m tonne/year of ethylene, from two crackers.
