HOUSTON (ICIS)--CF Industries shut down its fertilizer complex in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, as Tropical Storm Isaac approached the state, the US-based fertilizer firm said on Tuesday.

Isaac was expected to hit the US Gulf coast on Tuesday.

CF’s Donaldsonville complex is on the Mississippi river between New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

“We are taking the plant down as a precautionary measure as part of routine hurricane procedures,” said Tony Will, CF senior vice president for manufacturing and distribution.

“We are in contact with our customers and will let them know when we expect to resume production and deliveries from the facility,” Will added.

Many chemical and energy firms have shut down plants in preparation of Isaac, which was close to becoming a hurricane on Tuesday morning.

On its currently forecast track, Isaac’s centre will be near or over the Louisiana coast on Tuesday night or early Wednesday, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) said.
