SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s Tokuyama Corp plans to shut its 330,000 tonne/year vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) plant at Yamaguchi prefecture on 1 October for a month-long turnaround, a company source said on Thursday.

The turnaround period may be extended in view of the unit’s shutdown from May to July this year because of technical problems, but a decision has not been finalised at present, the source added.

The maintenance shutdown is expected to tighten VCM supply in the region, market sources said.

Tokuyama also operates a 490,000 dry metric tonne/year caustic soda facility at the same site, which is due to be shut for maintenance from 19 September to late October.
