SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China's Hengli Petrochemical plans to start commercial operationS at its 2.2m tonne/year No 1 purified terephthalic acid (PTA) unit in Dalian in China's northeastern Liaoning province before 10 September, a company source said on Friday.

The company has completed the final commissioning this week and aims to start commercial operation by 10 September, company sources said.

The start-up schedule has been pushed back once from end-July because of delayed construction of a ship berthing port at the project site.

Output from the new PTA plant will be mainly fed into Hengli’s own downstream polyester plants located in Jiangsu province, the source said.

The rest 37% output is for commercial sales, he added.

Hengli operates a total of 1.6m tonne/year polyester capacity in Jiangsu province, including two 200,000 tonne/year polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle chip lines, one 200,000 tonne/year industrial yarn unit and five 200,000 tonne/year polyester filament yarn units, the source said.

Hengli Petrochemical is building a second 2.2m tonne/year PTA plant at the same site and is targeting to start up the No 2 PTA unit at the end of the year, the source said.
