SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Daqing Petrochemical on 30 August completed construction of a new 6m tonne/year crude distillation unit (CDU) at Daqing in Heilongjiang province, parent firm PetroChina said on Friday.

Once operational, the company’s refining capacity will be raised to 10m tonne/year, the company said in a statement.

The CDU project was an investment of CNY1bn, according to PetroChina.

The expanded capacity will be sufficient to provide the entire feedstock needs of the company’s two crackers at the same site that can each produce 600,000 tonnes/year of ethylene, it said.

A company source said that while the CDU’s nameplate capacity is 6m tonne/year, the potential capacity of the unit could reach 6.8m-7m tonnes/year.

The CDU may begin full operations in early 2013, the source added.
