HOUSTON (ICIS) --US caustic soda exports in July were 353,586 tonnes, down 2.9% from the same month one year earlier, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data released on Tuesday.
However, exports in July were 3% higher than the 343,351 tonnes shipped in June, the ITC said.
According to market sources, export demand for US caustic remains healthy because of production cost advantages. While producers have said supply is tightening, many buyers dispute that.
Brazil was the top destination for US caustic soda at 157,097 tonnes, followed by Canada, Australia and Mexico.
Major producers of US caustic soda include Georgia Gulf, Formosa Plastics, OxyChem, Shintech, Dow, Olin and PPG Industries.
