US August styrene contracts gain 3.25 cents/lb on record benzene
US August styrene contracts were fully settled up by 3.25 cents/lb ($72/tonne, €55/tonne) from July, following direction from the August record high benzene contract, trade sources said. 

Latin American PET markets firm on Asia resin, feedstocks
Latin American polyethylene terephthalate (PET) markets firmed in September, driven by higher prices for resin and feedstocks in Asia, according to industry participants. 

Resins industry keeps watch on looming US dockworker strike
Latin America’s chemical industry players are keeping a nervous watch on the US, where a looming dockworkers strike could threaten resins shipments, sources said. 

Canada Q2 chemical plant utilisation rises to 80.1%
Canada-based chemicals producers ran their plants at an average capacity utilisation rate of 80.1% in the second quarter, compared with 79.9% in the first, a statistics agency said. 

Methanex Trinidad plant going down for maintenance in October
Methanex’s Atlas methanol plant in Trinidad and Tobago will go down in October to coincide with natural gas cutbacks there because of work being done on two offshore natural gas platforms, industry sources said. 

Italy's M&G buys land for Texas PET, PTA projects
Mossi & Ghisolfi (M&G) has bought land in Corpus Christi, Texas, for its planned polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and purified terephthalic acid (PTA) facilities, the Italy-based PET producer said. 

US chemical officials again blast federal site security plan
US industry officials renewed criticism of the federal programme for antiterrorism security at chemical plants, charging that flawed implementation and repeated delays have imposed substantial uncertainties and costs on regulated companies. 

Global MDI outlook brightens as demand rises – US analyst
Signs are pointing to an improving profit picture for methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) producers, with prices on the upswing in the US and Asia, along with steady pricing in Europe, an analyst said. 

US oxo-alcohol prices roll over into September
US September contract prices for oxo-alcohols were assessed as steady with prior month levels.
