SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Shanxi Yangmei Fengxi Fertilizer Industry plans to raise the operating rate of its new 70,000 tonne/year adipic acid (ADA) plant in Yuncheng, Shanxi province, from the previous week’s 50-60%, a company source said on Wednesday.

“We are planning to raise the plant’s operating rate this week, but we will not be able to increase the rate to 100% capacity because the feedstock benzene prices are too high,” the source said.

However, the source declined to disclose the new ADA plant’s specific operating rate for the week.

Trial runs were conducted at the new ADA plant in late August before it was started up in early September, according to the source.

In the Chinese domestic market, major producers have raised their listed prices from yuan (CNY) 11,000/tonne ($1,741) to CNY11,800/tonne, because of increasing feedstock prices during the week.

Domestic benzene prices were at CNY9,850-9,900/tonne ex-tank east China on 18 September, according to the Chemease, an ICIS service in China.

A producer was heard to increase its benzene prices by CNY300/tonne to CNY9,800/tonne in east China.

ADA is largely used for producing nylon 6,6 (polyamide 6,6) and polyurethanes (PU), which are found in shoe soles and polyester resins.
