SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwanese producer China Petrochemical Development Corp (CPDC) aims to start commercial operations at its new 100,000 tonne/year caprolactam (capro) line in Toufen, Miaoli county by the week of 28 September, a company source said on Wednesday.

“The raw material will be fed in from tomorrow, the source added. Should there be no quality issues, they should be able to produce on-spec product by next week.

CPDC, the sole capro producer in Taiwan, operates a 100,000 tonne/year capro line at the same site that is currently running at above 90% capacity, the source said.

The company’s other 200,000 tonne/year line at Xiaogang is currently operating above 90% capacity, the source added.

The company is aiming to increase domestic supply to key downstream nylon producers, and is also keen to export spot cargoes to China.
