HOUSTON (ICIS)--US ethylene prices for September delivery spiked by nearly 6% on Wednesday amid news of a cracker outage in Texas.

The monomer traded at 60.50 cents/lb ($1,334/tonne, €1,027/tonne) in the afternoon, up from September deals done at 57.25 cents/lb earlier in the day.

The increase came amid news that BASF TOTAL had an unplanned outage at its Port Arthur cracker in Texas late on Tuesday.

Ethylene for September was last heard bid at 57 cents/lb with no offers.
