SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s import volumes of suspension polyvinyl chloride (PVC) increased by 21% in August on the back of increased buying activity for August shipments, as buyers considered prices to have bottomed out in July, market sources said on Wednesday.

Restocking activities by buyers who were replenishing their low inventories after delaying their purchases for some time also boosted imports, the sources added.

Suspension PVC imports were at 98,684 tonnes in August, an increase of 17,318 tonnes from July’s figure of 81,366 tonnes, according to China Customs data.

PVC import prices in China were last assessed by ICIS at $1,010-1,030/tonne (€778-793/tonne) CFR (cost & freight) China Main Port (CMP) on 21 September, increased by $10/tonne at the high end of the range from the previous week.
