HOUSTON (ICIS)--BASF TOTAL Petrochemicals on Thursday said its Port Arthur cracker in Texas was off line, the second outage at the 934,000 tonne/year cracker in more than a week.

The outage was caused by the shutdown of a major compressor on 25 September, a company spokesperson said.

The length of the shutdown was unknown at this time, the spokesperson added.

The same cracker went down on 18 September as a result of an instrument failure at a major compressor, but production was restored two days later, according to the company.

The cracker is a joint venture between BASF and Total.
