HOUSTON (ICIS)--US butadiene (BD) production in August totalled 260m lb (118,00 tonnes), a 10.3% drop from 290m lb produced in the same month in 2011, consulting firm Jacobs Consultancy said on Friday.
BD output in August fell by 3.3% compared with 269m lb in July, the group said in its monthly Hodson report.
The drop resulted from increased ethane usage in the US feedstock mix and lower cracker operating rates last month.
US crackers operated at 92.2% of capacity in August, down from 94.8% in July as several units shut down or reduced rates at the end of the month in preparation for Hurricane Isaac, the report said.
