MELBOURNE (ICIS)--China’s Jiangmen Handsome Chemical Development has reduced its butyl acetate (butac) output at its 320,000 tonne/year ethyl acetate (etac)/butac swing plant at Jiangmen in Guangdong province by 50%, a company source said on Tuesday.

Its daily output of butac at the etac/butac swing plant was reduced to about 120 tonnes from 240 tonnes during the National Day holiday on 1-7 October, the company source said.

“[The output cut] was a temporary measure to prevent an inventory build up during the holiday period,” the source said.

While Jiangmen Handsome’s plant continued to operate over the holiday, the shutdown of the small end-users’ plants in the coating and lacquer sectors over the same period curbed sales, he added.

The butac output at Jiangmen should be ramped up to full capacity by the weekend of 13-14 October, he said.

In addition to the swing plant at Jiangmen, Jiangmen Handsome has a 60,000 tonne/year butac plant at Huizhou in Guangdong province. There were no adjustments to the operating rate at the Huizhou plant, which has been at 100% capacity.

In eastern China, Jiangmen Handsome’s plant at Taixing in Jiangsu province, which can produce 120,000 tonnes/year of etac and 60,000 tonnes/year of butac, has also been running at full capacity, the source added.
