TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s largest chemical producer Mitsubishi Chemical shut its 489,000 tonne/year No 2 naphtha cracker at Kashima because of a technical fault, a company spokesman said on Thursday.

The company had halted the operation of its cracker on 8 October, the spokesman said.

He declined from elaborating further, however.

The company has not yet decided when to restart the unit, the spokesman said.
