SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Dragon Special Resin plans to shut its 240,000 tonne/year polyester line at Xiamen in Fujian province for a regular 15-day turnaround on 15 October, a company source said on Thursday.

The main product of this line is polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle chips, the source added.

The line is currently running at an operating rate of 70% capacity as the market is weak. The company will still run its line at low operating rate after its maintenance, but the actual rate has yet to be decided, the source added.

The operating rates of beverage factories are about 40% capacity currently. The demand from beverage factories is expected to remain weak in the fourth quarter, which is traditionally a lull season, and almost all the PET bottle factories are running at low operating rates, a company source said.

The average operating rate of PET bottle factories is at about 62% currently, according to Chemease data, an ICIS service in China.
