SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s JX Nippon Oil and Energy is currently running its two paraxylene (PX) units in Kashima with a combined capacity of 600,000 tonnes/year at 70% of capacity because of mechanical issues at an upstream crude refining unit, a company source said on Friday.

Run rates at the PX units – a 180,000 tonne/year unit and a 420,000 tonne/year unit – were cut on 11 October and will continue running at reduced rates for 10 days, the source said.

“[The operating rate of the] unit[s] will be ramped back up on 21 November and around 5,000 tonnes of spot volumes will be affected,” the source said.

JX Nippon Oil operates a total of eight PX facilities in Japan with a total capacity of about 2.57m tonnes/year.
