EU chemicals production down by 0.2% in August – Eurostat

LONDON (ICIS)--Chemicals production in the EU in August fell by an estimated 0.2% month on month, European statistics agency Eurostat said on Friday.

Production in the eurozone during the same period decreased by 0.4% from July, Eurostat added. In July, chemicals production in the EU had risen by 0.9% month on month, and was up by 1.1% in the eurozone, according to revised figures.

Production levels in August were still down compared with the previous year. Chemicals production fell by 3.0% year on year in the EU, and was down by 3.1% in the eurozone.

Total August industrial production was up by 0.3% month on month in the EU and by 0.6% in the eurozone. In July, total production increased by 1.0% and 0.6% from the previous month, respectively

“Among the Member States for which data are available, industrial production rose in thirteen, fell in eight and remained stable in Ireland. The highest increases were registered in Portugal (+6.8%), Lithuania (+4.6%), Slovenia (+4.0%) and Greece (+2.5%), and the largest decreases in the Czech Republic (-2.9%), Denmark (-2.8%), Romania and Finland (both -1.1%),” Eurostat said.

Year on year, industrial production in August was 1.8% lower in the EU and down by 2.9% in the eurozone.

“Among the Member States for which data are available, industrial production fell in eleven and rose in eleven. The largest decreases were registered in Italy (-5.2%), Spain (-3.2%) and the Czech Republic (-3.1%), and the highest increases in Slovakia (+17.0%), Lithuania (+11.1%) and Latvia (+8.1%),” Eurostat said.
