HOUSTON (ICIS) --US polyvinyl chloride (PVC) exports were 314,130 tonnes in August, up by 11% from the same month a year earlier, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data released on Friday.
Exports in August were also 7.8% higher than the 291,310 tonnes shipped in July, the ITC said.
Canada was the top destination for US PVC exports in August at 39,414 tonnes, followed by China, Egypt and Turkey.
According to market sources, overseas demand for PVC has been healthy because of low production costs related to cheaper feedstocks.
PVC imports were 21,701 tonnes in August, nearly flat from the 21,467 tonnes received in the same month in 2011. However, imports were 11% higher than the 19,500 tonnes received in July.
Major US PVC producers include Westlake Chemical, Occidental Chemical, Formosa Plastics, Shintech and Georgia Gulf.
