HOUSTON (ICIS)--US vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) exports dropped by 16% in August year on year from fewer shipments to Brazil and Belgium, according to data released on Friday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).
VAM exports totalled 33,914 tonnes in August, compared with 40,340 tonnes in the same month of 2011.
Shipments to Belgium, the largest export destination, declined by 30% to 6,716 tonnes, compared with 9,659 tonnes in August 2011.
Brazil also took fewer shipments, receiving 4,006 tonnes in August, a decline of 53% from 8,511 tonnes in the same month last year.
Major US VAM sellers include Celanese, Dow Chemical, DuPont and LyondellBasell.
