HOUSTON (ICIS)--US sorbitol imports in August were down by 32% from the same month a year earlier, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday.

Imports totalled 650 tonnes, down from 961 tonnes in August 2011.

The fall year on year was the result of reduced shipments from Germany and Mexico.

August imports also decreased from 750 tonnes in July.

Indonesia, at 507 tonnes, was the major source of US August sorbitol imports, followed by Germany at 82 tonnes and China at 51 tonnes.
