LONDON (ICIS)--Germany-headquartered Helm has agreed to distribute and market Reverdia’s Biosuccinium renewable succinic acid in Europe, the companies said on Tuesday.

Reverdia, a joint venture between Dutch DSM and France’s Roquette, is expected to start up production at a commercial-scale bio-based succinic acid plant at Cassano Spinola, near Genoa in Italy, by the end of 2012.

“Our partnership with Helm will deliver expanded market development capacity for Reverdia in Europe,” said Reverdia’s commercial director Jo Kockelkoren.

“Helm is an experienced distributor and strong marketing company,” Kockelkoren added.

Financial, capacity or volume details were not disclosed. ICIS previously reported that the capacity of the plant at Cassano Spinola is 10,000 tonnes/year.

Biosuccinium is derived from non-fossil feedstock and produced with a yeast-based fermentation technology. The technology has been used at a demonstration plant in France since 2010, Reverdia said.
