SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Toray Plastics Malaysia plans to shut two of its acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) lines at its plant located in Penang state in early November for maintenance as previously scheduled, a source close to the company said.
The ABS plant comprised six lines with a total output of 330,000 tonnes/year. The two lines that will be undergoing turnaround have a capacity of 55,000 tonnes/year each. The overall operating rate of the plant is at 80-90% capacity currently, the company source said.
“The maintenance is expected to last around one month,” the source close to the company added.
The maintenance is expected to have little impact on the market given the current lull season, according to market sources.
ABS is a resin used to make toys, consumer electronics, appliances, office equipments as well as in the automotive and construction industry.
