SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China Sanjiang Fine Chemicals said on Thursday that it started construction of a 1.8m tonne/year methanol-to-olefin (MTO) plant at Jiaxing in Zhejiang province on 18 October and will begin its commercial operation in late 2014.

The facility, which will be able to take in 1.8m tonnes of methanol each year, is expected to produce around 300,000 tonnes/year of ethylene and 300,000 tonnes/year of propylene, said a company source.

The project is owned by Zhejiang Xingxing New Energy Technology, in which China Sanjiang acquired a 75% interest in September, according to a statement from China Sanjiang.
