RIO DE JANEIRO (ICIS)--Germany-based LANXESS is expanding its capacity in Brazil and around the world to meet demand, the company said on Thursday.

Since 2008, LANXESS has spent around $1bn (€770m) in acquisitions, modernisation and expansion in Brazil, the company said.

"This is a very firm focus we have on our strategy for the BRIC countries," said Humberto Lovisi, Latin America marketing director for performance butadiene rubbers at LANXESS.

He made his comments during the LANXESS Rubber Day corporate event.

LANXESS recently expanded its neodymium-polybutadiene rubber (NdPBR) capacity to 40,000 tonnes/year from 20,000 tonnes/year at its Cabo de Santo Agostinho complex in Pernambuco.

The company plans to build a €200m NdPBR plant in Singapore, which should go on line in 2015, it said.
