SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Sinopec Changling Co shut its aromatics unit at Yueyang in Hunan province on 23 October for scheduled maintenance, a company source said on Wednesday.

The turnaround will last for 30 days, the source added.

The aromatics unit can produce 42,000 tonnes/year of benzene, 44,000 tonnes/year of toluene and 56,000 tonnes/year of xylenes, according to the source.

“The shutdown will have limited impact on the spot market in central China, because of the weak downstream demand,” a trader said.

The Chinese producer is a subsidiary of state-owned petrochemical major Sinopec.
