HOUSTON (ICIS)--Texas City early on Thursday lifted a shelter-in-place order that had been in place since late Wednesday night as a result of a hydrochloric acid leak near the city's port.

Texas City is located about 70km (43 miles) southeast of Houston, near Galveston.

The leak forced residents to remain indoors overnight, with air-conditioning units turned off and windows and doors shut.

The restriction was lifted at 05:00 hours local time (10:00 GMT), according to the city's emergency management website.
