New York Stock Exchange to remain closed on Tuesday

HOUSTON (ICIS)--The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) will remain closed on Tuesday as a result of Hurricane Sandy, the exchange said.

The exchange said it may open on Wednesday if conditions permit.

The NASDAQ said it will also be closed on Tuesday.

As of 14:00 hours New York time (18:00 hours GMT), Hurricane Sandy was about 175 miles (285km) south southeast of New York City, travelling northwest at 28 miles/hour (44km/hour), according to the National Hurricane Center.

Maximum sustained wind speeds were at 90 miles/hour, the centre said. Sandy should make landfall near southern New Jersey later on Monday.
