SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s Formosa Chemical & Fibre Corp (FCFC) shut its 550,000 tonne/year No 1 purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant at Mailiao on 1 November for annual maintenance, a company source said on Friday.
The plant is expected to be restarted on 21 November, the source said.
FCFC operates four other PTA plants in Taiwan.
Its 550,000 tonne/year No 2 PTA unit in Mailiao will be shut once the No 1 plant restarts, the source said.
The company's two other PTA plants – a 700,000 tonne/year No 3 unit and a 400,000 tonne/year No 4 unit – are located at Loong-der.
FCFC’s No 4 plant has been idled since the middle of June, and is likely to remain shut because of squeezed PTA margins, the company source said.
