LONDON (ICIS)--Belgian chemicals producer Solvay has completed an expansion of its dispersible silica production capacity in France, the company said on Thursday.
The expansion of its silica production facilities at the company’s Collonges-au-Mont-d’Or site brings its worldwide silica production capacity to 400,000 tonnes/year, Solvay said.
The French expansion follows capacity increases in the US and China since 2010, with the three investments costing a total of €74m ($57.7m).
“Demand for highly dispersible silica is pulled by a growing need for safer and more energy-efficient tyres and the new European tyre-labelling legislation applicable from 1 November,” said Tom Benner, president of Solvay’s Silica Global Business division.
