SINGAPORE (ICIS)--South Korea’s Honam Petrochemical Co (HPC) is running its 50,000 tonne/year methyl methacrylate (MMA) plant in Yeosu at 100% capacity to increase its inventories, a company source said on Friday.

The plant was scheduled for a turnaround from 9-16 October but restart was delayed because of some troubles.

The plant was expected to restart again on 23 October but finally resumed production only on 26-27 October, the company source said.

The delays in the restart resulted in tightened supply in the South Korean domestic market and MMA prices in November is expected to increase, market players said.

The October MMA prices were at won (W) 2,500-2,600/kg ($2.29-2.38/kg), according to ICIS data. A producer said it targets at least W50/kg increase for November.
