HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) in September 2012 were down by 51% from 2011, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday.
MDI exports in September 2012 decreased to 778 tonnes from 1,603 tonnes in 2011.
Month on month, exports dropped by 7.5% to 778 tonnes in September 2012 from 841 tonnes in August, the ITC said.
Through September, exports dropped by 42% to 8,625 tonnes, compared with 14,788 tonnes in the first nine months of last year, according to the ITC.
The decrease from 2011 to 2012 was a result of smaller volumes being shipped to Brazil and China.
Top destinations for US MDI in 2012 were Mexico (3,071 tonnes), Brazil (2,487 tonnes) and Argentina (494 tonnes).
US MDI suppliers are Bayer MaterialScience, Huntsman, BASF and Dow Chemical.
