HOUSTON (ICIS)--US polyvinyl chloride (PVC) exports were 293,513 tonnes in September, up 15% from the same month a year earlier, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data released on Friday.?xml:namespace>
However, exports in September were down 7% from the 314,130 tonnes shipped in August, the ITC said.
In the first nine months of 2012, the US has exported 2.250m tonnes of PVC, 7% more than the 2.113 tonnes shipped during the same period of 2011.
Canada was the top destination for US PVC exports in September at 36,945 tonnes, followed by China (28,235 tonnes), Mexico (27,373 tonnes) and Turkey (20,502 tonnes).
Meanwhile, imports of PVC into the US in September were 22,531 tonnes, up 3% from the 21,850 tonnes received in the same month of 2011 and up 4% from the 21,701 tonnes received in August.
Major US PVC producers include Westlake Chemical, PPG Industries, Occidental Chemical, Formosa Plastics, Shintech and Georgia Gulf.
