HOUSTON (ICIS)--US acrylonitrile (ACN) spot prices fell on confirmed and heard deals out of the US Gulf, sources said on Friday.
Prices moved to $1,440-1,575/tonne (€1,123-1,229/tonne) FOB (free on board) from $1,620-1,650/tonne.
“Prices are falling,” declared more than one producer.
Downstream demand is waning globally, although it has maintained most of its strength in the US.
ACN is used to produce acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS). ABS has seen strong demand throughout the year, primarily because of the automotive industry, which has seen 14% growth in the number of cars and light trucks sold in the US.
North American producers of ACN include Ascend Performance Materials, Cornerstone Chemicals, INEOS Nitriles and Unigel.
